The Doctors Are In

by Sherri Moorer

The welcome home screams invited me into the offices of Doctors Zack and Bubbles, ready to begin their official duties as listeners and comforters of human sorrows after a hard day at work.

“What am I going to do?” I asked, as I plopped in my recliner. “The phones won’t stop ringing. The emails are constant. The mail weeps with the death of a forest every day. The computers crash, the copiers and scanners jam, and the people! It’s questions, complaints, problems, and misdirected calls all day long. How can I do this until retirement?”

Find out what Doctors Zack and Bubbles prescribe for their most important patient, mom, on the Feathered Frenzy page.

Morty is full of hot air – Turbo Jet (Vacuum) Air!

Greetings to all my favorite parrot friends! Alexa is in a mood after she rolled under the couch. She blames me for her clumsiness! Good help is hard to find these days!

Morty's advert

Recently, I received an interesting letter from a parrot owner.

Dear Morty,

I live in a three bedroom home and have ten parrots. I work 12 hour shifts and when I get home I am too tired to clean. It seems like every bird has the habit of throwing their fruit, veggies, seed, and pellets on the floor! When I go into their room at night, it is a filthy mess. I cant even get near their cages! Is there anything on the market that could help me? PLEASE DON’T TELL ME TO GET A VACUUM CLEANER! I have three. I am looking for a piece of industrial equipment. Price is not a problem.

Welcome Ruby!

A baby red factor African Grey birdie entered the lives of Oscar and her mom Pauline recently.  While Pauline doted over the wee one for days and weeks (to Oscar’s dismay), the Twitter and Facebook flock waited with bated breath for pictures – and of course the announcement of the name of this little cutie.

After a few weeks of naming deliberations and anxious online excitement, we were introduced to Ruby!  Welcome Ruby!

Here’s baby Ruby as an upstart 🙂

Ruby demonstrates to mom and all that she’s becoming a big birdie, learning to climb and perch!

Ruby joins her flock in the living room, enjoying the comfort of her blankie while Oscar keeps a watchful eye over her.

And last, but not least, the one photo to be used on Ruby’s 16th Hatchday – probably at her prom party 🙂

We’re so happy to welcome you into our social media flock Ruby!  You’re going to be causing havoc with Oscar and Keito in no time!

Oscar, a Love Story

by Pauline Porter – @paulineporter16

Oscar’s dad used to launch eggs out of the nest box so fast that it took me a long time – and several failed attempts, to finally rescue one.

After incubating Oscar’s egg, the fun began!  During hatching, Oscar had a job breaking out of her shell.  After 55 hours of struggle, and me and hubby taking shifts to sit with her and gently chip little bits of shell away, Oscar finally broke completely free of her shell, and entered our world and lives as a wee, pink little baby!

Oscar a half-hour old

Hand-rearing proved difficult too as Oscar’s crop wouldn’t empty, but we got there in the end.  Oscar is now a beautiful 6-year old treasure that’s just a wee bit special to me 🙂

Oscar now

Oscar is best buds with Keito, her Canadian Pionus friend.  They go on virtual adventures together, and have been known to get into the moonshine often!  Keito of course is a bad influence, being a Canuck via South America and all, ha ha.

Ladies and gentlemen, Keito and Oscar are now taking the stage for another sold out performance as The Tipsy Chicks!

Oscar often has some explaining to do when she gets home from these adventures and mom see’s her beautiful, pure white feathers covered in mud and foliage.  Such debris tends to stand out when you’re white!  Such happenings cause Oscar’s mom to worry just a little bit about what her sweet, innocent Oscar is up to on these ‘excursions’.

Keito has video evidence, hee hee!

Remembering Chloe

Chloe 4-1-17

Chloe Moorer, of Columbia, SC, passed away after an accident on December 2, 2017. Born in 2003 in Florida, she was moved to Parrot Mountain and Gardens in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where she was lovingly adopted on May 20, 2010 and moved to Columbia, SC, with her new flock.

Chloe was a sweetheart and a beauty queen. She loved hanging out with mommy, sitting on the porch, playing on her play gym, holidays, celebrations, visiting family and friends, interacting with her friends on Twitter and at the ConureCorner website and blog, and sticking her nose into whatever her flock was doing. Chloe was an avid fan of the University of South Carolina, the University of Tennessee, Bruce Lee, Superman, and most of all, Captain America. She enjoyed giving kisses to her mommy and grand-mommy, drinking daddy’s juice, eating good food, a rousing mystery, listening to mommy’s stories and ideas for novels, and looking her best. Chloe starred in several Anipal Land stories on the ConureCorner blog, alongside her Twitter pals, as a Kung-fu master who helped to save the day.

Chloe&Mommy

Chloe is survived by her parronts, Rick and Sherri Moorer; her brother, Zacchaeus (Zack, a sun conure on Twitter as @wazzupzack); and her sister, Bubbles (a blue Moncks Parakeet, on Twitter as @CaptainBubbs). She was pre-deceased by a brother, Oliver (Ollie, a green budgie who passed of cancer in 2014).

Chloe was a kind and generous bird, and a great listener. She is greatly loved and missed.
