Beneath the Cage Grate: Vroom Vroom Roomba

img_20190104_115009Twas the day after Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring because of that runaway Roomba Alexa gave mother for Christmas!  Honestly, I could just spit seeds!  Just when you thought it was safe to take a stroll around the apartment, that ditzy Alexa strikes again!

Morty’s challenges with Alexa continue.  Visit Morty’s Column to read his hilarious take on Alexa’s gift for mum.

What’s Really Contagious

After coming down with a nasty sinus infection a week before Christmas, Sherri soon bubbles 7-4-16realizes how some of her negative behavior can quickly transfer over to the behavior and reactions of Bubbles and Zack.

Sherri observes that companion birds can help us become better people – if we acknowledge that their reactions can shine a light on problems that we might want to avoid.  There’s so much to behavior on the part of humans and birds.

Visit our Feathered Frenzy page to find out how Sherri strives to balance a zack 5-16-14busy work schedule and implement relaxation techniques to help her get “centered” when the world around her gets out of control.

Remembering Chloe

Today is the one-year anniversary of Chloe’s passing due to a cat attack. Mom, dad, Bubbles and Zack miss you so very much 😢. Watch over them and your countless Anipals who remember you today and miss you terribly. In our hearts forever, love you always Chloe ❤️💔😢

Birds can feel the magic of the holiday season too!

It starts on November 1, inspiring over seven weeks of bright eyes, excitement, and good behavior. It is the ringtone that only mommy can hear:  “Hello? Hi, Santa!”  Bubbles and Zack begin their posturing and charm as they know the holidays are on the horizon and they’re on Santa’s radar for good behavior!  The holidays are a fun time, and we can share that fun with our avian companions. We just have to be mindful of exercising appropriate safety precautions around the home and with other people.

Read Sherri’s inspiring and fun Feathered Frenzy article to find out more about fun ways to get your birdies excited for the upcoming holidays and safe ways to include them in the festivities.

News on the Wing: November Edition

TheIMG_20180615_155811 World Wildlife Fund recently released its Living Planet Report 2018, and the news is dire for the world’s wildlife.  The following are a few of the sobering statistics highlighted in the report:

“OUR LIVING PLANET, AT A GLANCE

60%  – Populations of mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, and amphibians have, on average, declined by 60% between 1970 and 2014, the most recent year with available data.

50% – The Earth is estimated to have lost about half of its shallow water corals in the past 30 years.

20% – A fifth of the Amazon has disappeared in just 50 years.

$125 trillion – Globally, nature provides services worth around $125 trillion a year, while also helping ensure the supply of fresh air, clean water, food, energy, medicines, and much more.”

We are not only destroying the natural world, we are also putting ourselves in peril.  There’s not much time for humans to stand up for nature and develop concrete, sustainable plans to reduce and turn around the damage already done to wildlife and the planet.

Bird Vacation

by Sherri Moorer

Zack and Bubbles recently had a vacation. As mom and dad headed out for a long-awaited cruise, they stayed with my parents.  It was as much a vacation for the birdies as it was for their parronts!  Zack and Bubbles definitely had new experiences.  Staying with their grandparronts, they didn’t have to get up before sunrise, and that was a treat!  They also got caught up on mommy’s favorite soap opera and got to sit outside on the screen porch every day, and, were greeted by many new people when they came by to visit.

So, while mom and dad were enjoying the sun and sand in the Bahamas, Zack and Bubbles were enjoying their own adventure with their grandparronts!

Read Sherri’s full article on Feathered Frenzy to learn about how proper socialization and good birdie behaviour is key to a rewarding and relaxing vacation for both fids and parronts.

Morty’s Birthday Bash Bungle

Morty’s day began as normal UNTIL, he found out his mum was going out for a birthday bash!  Well, with mum gone, Morty thought hey, why not tell everyone it was his birthday too and hold a little birthday bash of his own.  What could possibly go wrong, right?  IMG_20181103_111124

Well, putting Alexa in charge of the birthday  invitations and refreshments was quite likely  Morty’s first mistake.  Instead of Alexa inviting Morty’s AniPal friends from Twitter and Instagram, fly over to Beneath the Cage Grate to read about the ruckus that ensued with Alexa’s invitation announcements.

P.S. If you didn’t get an invitation for Morty’s party, you’ll soon discover why!
